Your LakeAir Air Purifier has one or more replaceable filters. It is important to replace these filters as needed. Replacing these filters help your air purifier to run efficiently. It is also necessary to keep your product warranty in force. Chose from the filter categories below.
Carbon filters help the air smelling clean. They remove odors and gassy fumes called VOC’s
LakeAir HEPA filters are “True HEPA” filters. These filters offer the best protection from all indoor air particles.
LakeAir Pre Filters protect the primary filter and extend the life of your filters. Replace pre filters regularly.
Carbon filters are the best method to remove VOCs and 0dors from the air. LakeAir Carbon filters are made from virgin coconut shell carbon. Coconut shell carbon is one of the best carbons for removing the smells and gasses that we are likely to come across in our everyday lives. We also have other VOC absorbing media that we blend with carbon for special applications. Many times this custom blending is done at no extra charge.
The standard carbon filters are made from a special non-woven polyester that has been saturated with carbon dust. This process is done with different densities of carbon and pressure. The result is a lightweight material that allows air to pass through easily while allowing gasses and odors to be absorbed from the air stream. The standard carbon filter offers reasonable odor control. They last nearly as long as granular carbon filters but have less ability to absorb odor and Volatile Organic Compounds.
Granulated carbon provides a higher volume of carbon for more odor and VOC absorption. LakeAir Super and Ultra Carbon Filters use a traditional carbon filter designed. One or more honeycomb cores are coated with an ultra-fine mesh to contain carbon crystals. Each core is filled with a proper amount of carbon. A second mesh is applied and the filter is mounted in a galvanized steel frame. The resulting filter provides excellent odor and VOC control.
HEPA stands for high-efficiency particulate air. A HEPA filter is a type of mechanical air filter; it works by forcing air through a fine mesh that traps harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander, dust mites, and tobacco smoke. The filter must satisfy certain standards of efficiency such as those set by the United States Department of Energy (DOE). To qualify as HEPA by US government standards, an air filter must remove (from the air that passes through) 99.97% of particles that have a size of 0.3 µm. HEPA was commercialized in the 1950s, and the original term became a registered trademark and later a generic term for highly efficient filters.
HEPA filters are composed of a mat of randomly arranged fibers. The fibers are typically composed of fiberglass and possess diameters between 0.5 and 2.0 micrometers. Key factors affecting its functions are fiber diameter, filter thickness, and face velocity. The air space between HEPA filter fibers is typically much greater than 0.3 μm. The common assumption that a HEPA filter acts like a sieve where particles smaller than the largest opening can pass through is incorrect and impractical. Unlike membrane filters at this pore size, where particles as wide as the largest opening or distance between fibers can not pass in between them at all, HEPA filters are designed to target much smaller pollutants and particles. These particles are trapped (they stick to a fiber) through a combination of the following three mechanisms:
The pre filter is the first step in producing the highest grade of clean air in LakeAir commercial models. These filters are cleanable but due to the environment in which they are often used its not uncommon to need to replace them. These pre filters do a great job in knocking down larger particles therefore allowing your system to run at peak efficiency. Large particles can damage an electrostatic cell, so it is very important to keep a good flow of air to your filtering system.
A rule of thumb is to replace your pre filter annually. If the environment you are in is relatively clean you can sometimes get away with washing the pre filter. Inspection should be done at least every 6 months. You should inspect your pre filter more often if your LakeAir Air Purifier is in a more heavily polluted area.
LakeAir Media filters are a cost effective option compared to HEPA filters. Our MERV 11 and MERV 10 filters will clean the air of most particle that will adversely affect most users. On top of cost efficiency, media filters have lower back pressure that allow for more airflow and are less likely to impede fan life.
MERV 11 filters are suitable for high end residential room filters. MERV 10 filter are a great low back pressure option for whole house filter applications. Our media filters are have a Z-Line pleated filter that offers improved performance for virtually every application. LakeAir filters provide high performance with low pressure drop for energy efficiency. All Z-Line pleated filters feature fibers which do not absorb moisture and will not support microbial growth. The LakeAir MERV 11 Z-Line replacement media filters achieve a MERV 11 rating per the ANSI/ASHRAE 52.2 Test Standard.
