While LakeAir does not have any air purifiers for free, we do have some guidelines on how you might be able to receive one. Check out this information here.
Meta Description: Discover the most effective types of air filtration systems, including HEPA, electrostatic, UVGI, and activated carbon filters. Learn where to place your purifier for maximum effectiveness.
At LakeAir, we offer a variety of air filtration technologies engineered to eliminate both particulate matter and harmful gaseous pollutants. Whether you’re tackling allergens, smoke, or pathogens, we have a system to meet your needs.
Electrostatic air purifiers use an electric charge to capture harmful particles like dust, pollen, and smoke. These systems feature washable filter cells, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly choice.
Best For: Allergens, dust, light smoke
Maintenance: Washable filter (no need for frequent replacements)
High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters are the gold standard in air purification. These filters remove 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns, including bacteria, viruses, and fine dust.
⚠️ Beware of “HEPA-type” filters—they sound similar but don’t meet the rigorous standards of true HEPA filtration. LakeAir uses only certified HEPA filters.
Best For: Bacteria, viruses, fine dust, smoke
Lifespan: Replace every 6-12 months depending on usage
Media filters are made of pleated, paper-like material with up to 75 square feet of pollutant-trapping surface area when unrolled. They’re ideal for homes with pets or high pollen levels.
Best For: Pet hair, dander, pollen
Lifespan: 1–2 years
Activated carbon excels at absorbing odors and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We include activated carbon filters in all LakeAir air purifiers.
Best For: Smoke odors, cooking smells, chemical fumes
Tip: We offer a wide selection of carbon filter replacements in our store.
UVGI technology uses ultraviolet light to deactivate DNA in viruses, bacteria, and mold spores, making them inactive and harmless. This system is commonly used in medical-grade purifiers.
Best For: Pathogens, mold, viruses
Safety: UVGI units are safely enclosed within the system
To get the best results, place your air purifier near the pollution source. For example, if a smoker stands near a window, position your unit close to that area.
Close all doors and windows for maximum filtration efficiency
Keep at least 2–3 feet of clearance around the unit
Avoid placing purifiers behind furniture, in corners, or under tables
Our purifiers remove a wide range of indoor pollutants:
| Contaminant | Removal System |
|---|---|
| Allergens (dust, pollen, pet dander) | HEPA, Media, Electrostatic |
| Mold spores | UVGI, HEPA |
| Smoke and odors | HEPA + Activated Carbon |
| Indoor toxins (from furniture, cleaners) | Activated Carbon |
✅ Result: Cleaner air for allergy sufferers, asthma patients, and families.

Air purifiers clean indoor air by removing particles, odors, and contaminants. There are three main types:
Mechanical (HEPA/media): Trap pollutants in filter media
Electrostatic: Use charged plates to attract and capture particles
UV/UVC systems: Neutralize biological threats like viruses and bacteria
Each type addresses different concerns and has unique benefits depending on your needs.
Coverage depends on the capacity of an air purifier. This is measured in CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute). For example, our Maxum HEPA air purifier delivers 500 CFM, enough to clean a 25′ x 25′ room six times per hour. Use our Air Purifier Calculator to determine what’s right for your space.
Yes. Dust can contain allergens, pet dander, mold spores, and even chemicals. These invisible particles reduce air quality and can trigger respiratory issues — especially in children, the elderly, and allergy or asthma sufferers.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are harmful gases released by paints, cleaning supplies, furniture, and even building materials. They can cause irritation, nausea, and long-term health effects. LakeAir purifiers with activated carbon filters are designed to absorb VOCs effectively.
We recommend placing your LakeAir purifier in the bedroom, where you spend the most time. A model like the Maxum HEPA can clean a 15′ x 15′ room affordably and efficiently. Ensure 2–3 feet of clearance around the unit, and avoid placing it behind furniture or in corners.
Run your air purifier 24/7 for optimal air quality. Air pollution is constant indoors, and many of our customers run their purifiers non-stop for 10+ years, pausing only for cleaning or filter maintenance.
Most electronic devices generate trace ozone, but LakeAir units stay well within safe limits. Our electrostatic models emit under 50 parts per billion, compliant with California state standards. We do not sell ozone generators and advise against using any purifier that relies primarily on ozone.
CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) measures airflow rate — the higher the CFM, the faster the air gets cleaned.
Example:
A 15’ x 15’ x 15’ room = 3,375 cubic feet
Divide by 60 (minutes in an hour): 56.25
Multiply by 8 (air changes/hour): 450 CFM
Or simply use our CFM calculator for fast results.
There are 2 really good alternatives for filtering out smoke. Both of these technologies use an activated carbon filter. The two types are HEPA and Electrostatic. HEPA filters clean more thoroughly, down to 0.3 microns in a single pass. Electrostatic is about 3% less efficient. Where electrostatic comes out ahead is the cost of operation. Both technologies work, but there are many factors to consider. We devote a page to this question.
