How to Fix an Electrostatic Cell that is Arcing.
If your electrostatic air purifier or (smoke eater) is making a constant snapping sound, it can be very annoying. By their very nature they should snap and arc occasionally. This is most common when they are first turned on or when you have introduced some new particles into the air stream.
Releasing fresh sawdust, or flicking a cigar near your air purifier is probably going to send it into s snapping frenzy. But under normal conditions more than 10 snaps an hour is considered problematic. If you are not sure if you have a problem, please call our customer service pro’s at 800-558-9436.
Most often the cause of an over-zapping air purifier is a dirty filter cell. However, sometimes in a new machine a micro-bur can be dislodged in the shipping process. Micro-burs are tiny slivers of metal usually to small for the eye to see. But, they can cause a short in your electrostatic precipitator cell that can drive you crazy.
The Easy Fix
Luckily the fix to this easy and requires very few tools. In most cases all you need is a screw driver and an emery board. Identifying the exact location of the culprit can be a little more challenging depending on which model you have. If you need help with any of the steps in our video please call us and we will give you the needed guidance.
Caution High Voltage !!!
Electrostatic Precipitators use High Voltage to clean the Air. Our Units use 5-8 KV DC at a low amperage in the cleaning process. NEVER touch an energized Electrostatic Cell! NEVER attempt to repair or service any air purifier unless it is tuned off and unplugged!
